Reporting to the Associate Director, Biology the incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in various aspects of translational research, as well as the drug discovery/development process. The ideal candidate will be a critical and strategic thinker responsible for developing and implementing novel urinary exosome (protein and/or nucleic acid-based) biomarker assays for both preclinical and clinical use. The candidate will also provide biomarker support for ongoing clinical trials, as well as timely scientific review of progress to stakeholders to guide project decisions. Candidates who possess strong scientific curiosity and have a proven track record of elucidating complex biological processes (including molecular and cellular mechanism of actions) are encouraged to apply.

Job responsibilities:

  1. Interpret and monitor both clinical and preclinical biomarker data and communicate regularly with team members to troubleshoot experiments and coordinate tasks as needed.
  2. Independently design, develop, validate and perform various cell-free and cell-based assays to evaluate the activity of potential microRNA therapeutics and to elucidate the mechanism/function of specific molecular targets in vitro.
  3. Perform protein and RNA extraction from exosome preparations, cells, tissues and mouse and human fluid samples. Prepare and submit samples for -omic analysis including next-generation sequencing.
  4. Analyze RNAseq (bulk, single nuclei, spatial transcriptomic) and perform meta-analysis using new and existing omics data.
  5. Plan, coordinate and manage CRO and academic collaborations studies.
  6. Maintain a high level of familiarity and understanding of the current literature on microRNA biology, novel oligotherapeutic technologies, and how they relate to specific therapeutic areas of interest.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Cell and/or Molecular Biology or related discipline and 2 years of post-doctoral drug discovery experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
    • MS Candidates with a strong publication record and demonstrated success in oligotherapeutic research will also be considered.
  • Strong experience in various cell and molecular biology techniques including, cell culture (primary and stable cell lines), transfection, stable cell line generation, MSD, ELISA, RNA purification, RT-qPCR, western blots and other standard cell-based or biochemical assays.
  • Experience with both in vitro and in vivo models for kidney biology, biomarker development and exosomes knowledge.
  • Experience with liquids handling and automation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer data analysis and presentation applications: e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Prism.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including both written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and function in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate reproducible results, and to teach others.

  • PhD in Cell and/or Molecular Biology or related discipline and 2-5 years of post-doctoral drug discovery experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Basic understanding of oligonucleotides drug discovery.
  • Experience in working with and managing CROs and academic collaborations.
  • Experience with a range of platforms (Fluidigm, Hamilton and JESS).
  • Working knowledge of microRNA biology, disease-based cell modeling, and in vivo preclinical disease models.
  • Understanding the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  • Experience with metabolomics and proteomics data analysis.
  • Proficiency in R is a plus.

Benefits:

  • The expected hiring range for this multi-level position is $97,000 to $133,000 per year, commensurate with educational level and experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
